Ten of the Best Ever Swimwear models 7. Cheryl Tiegs was one of the first American Super Model

One of the models that contributed to starting the whole bikini craze in the seventies was Cheryl Tiegs.

American model and fashion designer Cheryl Tiegs has been frequently described as the first American supermodel.

Tiegs is best known for her multiple appearances on the covers of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue and for her 1978 "Pink Bikini" poster, which became an iconic image of 1970s pop culture.

Cheryl's first big job was on a shoot in Saint Thomas with Ali MacGraw, which resulted in her first Glamour cover.

She was then booked for Seventeen and Elle. Later came Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.

Tiegs was the first model to appear twice on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

She made headlines in the late 70s when she was signed to a reported $1.5 million two-year contract with Cover Girl cosmetics.

In 2001 Tiegs posed in a bikini for the cover of More, and earned considerable praise for her incredible shape.

In 1980, Tiegs launched a signature line of clothing and accessories for Sears - the Cheryl Tiegs collection neared $1 billion in sales by 1989.

Tiegs was a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice in 2012; proceeds from her participation went to the Farrah Fawcett Foundation.

For sure she is one of the Ten Best Ever Swimwear Models
