Irish singer Lyra has embarked on a body positivity journey

The Cork native opened up about the lack of body confidence she has and said she's doing her best to work on it.

The singer revealed that she didn't share a swimsuit photo because she was nervous about the fact "it stays there forever".

Lyra shared the gorgeous snap to her story and eventually worked up the courage to share it on her main feed.

She told how she received tons of messages from women, praising her honesty online.

Speaking Lyra said: "This is a new journey for me, I'm really trying to get into this body confidence in myself.

"And I didn't post that photo for ages I actually only put it on my story because I was too nervous to put it on my page because it stays there forever.

"I got so many amazing messages from women saying, 'Thank you for sharing this, my daughter's all in social media and I want her to see women like you sharing things like this.'

"And actually it was those women sending those messages that gave me the confidence to put that picture up."

Lyra admitted she felt "annoyed" at herself for not having the confidence to share the picture originally.

She explained: "I was actually really annoyed at myself that I didn't have the confidence to put it up at the start but it's something that I am learning.

"I suppose when you're in the light, people think you must be really confident but I'm really not.

"Especially when it comes to my body, even though the outfits I wear you'd think I was.

"But I'll never let my body take over what I want to wear, I'll always wear what I want to wear and I just want other people to try and get to that place."

In the photo Lyra shared, she wore a black swimsuit and stood in front of the sea.

The singer told that "cellulite is normal" and urged everyone to love every part of themselves.

She captioned the stunning snap: "I posted this 'sun, sea and cellulite' pic to my story and I was blown away with the amount of people thanking me for normalizing cellulite.

"Cellulite is normal, stretch marks are normal, body hair is normal, gaining weight is normal…I mean the list goes on!

"I’m not going to lie it took me a while to press post and I’m annoyed at myself about that, but it’s something I’m working on.

"Body confidence is hard in today’s world of fake unrealistic expectations of what our bodies should look like and I hate it!

"Love EVERY part of your body, embrace it, celebrate it and show it off".
