Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit model Emily DiDonato is expecting her first baby

The 30-year-old told the outlet she wasn’t "feeling quite like myself" when she decided to take a pregnancy test.

"I felt a little tired," said DiDonato. "I was a little bloated. I actually just had a test in my drawer and I was like, ‘I’m just going to take this. I have a weird feeling that this is potentially going to be positive.'"

When the test did come back positive, the star "ran to CVS and bought 20 different kinds of pregnancy tests. I took all of them," she said. "I was like, ‘OK, I really, really am pregnant."

The model, who has been open about her past struggles with body image acceptance, told that pregnancy has been "really positive" for her.

"I feel a whole new neutrality towards my body and food in a way," she explained. "In terms of my body, I think this is the first time in my life that I’ve had to be like my body is about to change and a lot of it is not under my control and that’s OK. And also reminding myself that stressing about it and getting upset about it isn’t going to change what’s about to happen in the next nine months."

"My body is going on a journey," she shared. "It knows what it needs. I know what I need. And I just need to make sure I’m being the healthiest version of myself as much as I can when I can."

According to Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, DiDonato made her debut in 2013 and returned to shoot for the magazine in 2020.

The 28-year-old model Emily DiDonato opened up about her journey to body positivity

Four months ago, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Emily DiDonato, 28, opened up about her struggles with body image acceptance throughout her modeling career and ever since she’s been blown away by the reactions she’s received.

“I was building my YouTube channel, and I realized that I had this very engaged female audience,” the model tells PEOPLE exclusively at Aerie’s Delivering Good holiday campaign, supporting women and girls in homeless shelters. “I felt like I had this channel where I was really showing people the most real, authentic me, and I wanted to use it in a meaningful way. It was a message that I was ready to share.”

In August, DiDonato filmed a 15-minute video on her YouTube channel detailing her experience as a model, recalling times when agencies told her she was “too big” causing her to lose 20 pounds, and the moment she experienced true self-acceptance.

“So many people reached out, and so many outlets picked it up. I was blown away,” she says. “I had girls like Karlie Kloss repost it, and I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ I couldn’t believe how much it resonated with so many different types of people. But, I mean, now that I think about it, it’s actually a no brainer that it does.”

The model, who has graced the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and starred in Maybelline campaigns, credits body-positive brands like Aerie for giving her the push she needed to share her story.

Wyoming will be one of the locations for sports illustrated photoshoot 2020 swimsuit issue

It's still swimsuit season in Wyoming. At least it is this week. Sports Illustrated recently revealed the latest photos from their 2020 Swimsuit Issue, which were shot at the Brush Creek Ranch outside of Saratoga.

Several of the world's top supermodels, including Russian bombshell Vita Sidorkina, American models Myla Dalbesio, Emily Didonato, and Danielle Harrington, German newcomer Kim Riekenberg and several others braved snow and frigid temperatures posing for Cowgirl-theme pictures in the Medicine Bow National Forest, the Snowy Range Mountains, and at the Vedauwoo Recreational Area.

Sports Illustrated has posted a photo gallery from their Wyoming swimsuit shoot on Instagram featuring the models fishing, hiking, starting campfires, and riding snowmobiles.

The Brush Creek Ranch routinely ranks among the best resorts in America. The luxury dude ranch situated on 30,000 acres in the North Platte River Valley, bordering the Sierra Madre and Snowy Range Mountains and Medicine Bow National Forest. The property includes a 38,000 sq. ft. lodge, a 10,000 sq. ft. spa, pool, and grotto, and the historic Magee Homestead which features nine cabins. It has hosted several celebrity guests over the years, including recent visits from Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner.

The former SI Swimsuit model Emily DiDonato admits that after a lot of rejection early in her career, she was willing to do "whatever it takes" to start booking jobs

"I posted a video on my YouTube channel talking about my road to self love and body confidence," Emily captioned a photo of herself on Instagram. "It took me a long time to feel comfortable in my body. I’ve fluctuated over the years from a double zero to a size 10 and I remember being so embarrassed and ashamed of that.

"I wish I was kinder to myself because I am only human but I thought models were meant to be a 00 and stay a 00," she continued.

"I was always hesitant to talk about body positivity or body diversity because I am aware being a size 6 or 8 is nothing ground breaking but in the modeling industry, my size hasn’t always been represented, celebrated or accepted. For me, feeling comfortable in my skin has taken a lot of work and effort and I wanted to share that.

The former SI Swimsuit model admits that after a lot of rejection early in her career, she was willing to do "whatever it takes" to start booking jobs. That included eating as little as possible and working out as often as possible, which ultimately led to a thinner frame but fragile mental state.

"I was lonely. I was homesick. I missed my friends," she recalls in the video. "I didn't know what I was doing in this big city. I didn't know anyone.

"I didn't even know how to make new friends because, like, making friends as an adult is actually very hard," she said. "I was going to castings, and I still wasn't getting great feedback."

Emily remembers feeling embarassed when she eventually gained the weight back, because she felt like she was failing the agencies and people who believed in her. After landing a spot in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, Emily, who hated her first year of photos, was shocked to find she started working more than ever. The New York-based model is now "at peace" with her body and determined never to let a brand or individual opinion ruin her self-confidence again.

Emily DiDonato is no stranger to a sexy bikini photoshoot. The four-time Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model has brought the heat to stunning locations all over the world, from Hawaii to Namibia.

So, how exactly does a model get ready for this kind of shoot?, Emily revealed the nourishing foods she sticks to while preparing to rock some barely-there bikinis.

Emily’s go-to meals include lots of green veggies and lean proteins, such as egg whites or wild-caught salmon. She’s also a big fan of delicious sides like butternut squash or sweet potato.

Explains the importance of making sure she is eating enough protein and carbs to give her body the energy it needs to kill her workouts.

But prepping for a swimsuit shoot doesn’t mean you have to skip dessert! Emily’s personal favorite is a few scoops Halo Top ice cream.

“I just like having something sweet after dinner, and I don’t believe in just going totally cold-turkey on everything,” Emily said. “I still want to be able to sit and have dessert and enjoy that.”
