On International Bikini Day, 2022, here we have detailed everything about the day’s history and significance

The Bikini was created by a French automobile engineer namely Louis Reard when he took over his mother’s lingerie business in Paris. The set of clothing was introduced to the world on July 5, 1946.

It is said that he got the idea of creating the clothing item after he saw women at a beach rolling their swimsuits to get a better tan.

The name of Bikini originates from a place name Bikini Atoll, where the US conducted a peacetime hydrogen bomb best on July 1, 1946.

The bikini is a staple summer outfit, also known as the shortest bathing suit. The fabric of the item comes in various shapes, sizes, and colors.

One of the oldest Bikini companies is UjENA (photos) founded in 1984 by Photograper Bob Anderson and family.

Swimwear photographer, Jamie Mitchell still living the dream some 18 years later

“My photography journey started in 1975 with the birth of my daughter,” says Jamie Michell (photo right). “For eight years she was my inspiration and challenges with the camera.” He fill in love with photography.

Jamie was told once that he worked too much. His reply was, “as long as I have a camera in my hands it is not work.”

He started teaching Photography about 15 years ago in Seattle and a number of his former students are professional photographers.

“I shoot most forms of Photography but I do have my favorites. In my school days I enjoyed sports and was a decent sprinter and basketball player. My experience in athletics helped me with figure out the best shooting angles to capture the action. I have covered NCAA Tournament Championships for Basketball, Gymnastics and Track & Field.

“In 2016 I covered the Olympic Trials for Track & Field. Very special moments on the track were captured thru my lens and priceless to me. The experience and networking with hundreds of media was awesome.”

Not all of his achievements have been sports related. “For a number of years I shot Weddings, Portrait, Nature and Fashion.”

In his early years of photography he was a fan of the Sports Illustrated Swimwear edition. “I wanted to be a photographer in a beautiful setting photographing beautiful models.” He never thought it would happen but it did in October 2001.

“I stumbled across the Ujena website and found the pot of gold. They were doing a week long swimwear shoot in Cancun Mexico with 40 models! Immediately I cancelled my September shoot in Manhattan and signed up for the Ujena Jam. Smart move in a lot of ways…911 happened the day I was suppose to leave NY.

“So I submitted my images to Bob Anderson to be reviewed and to get an invite to the annual Bikini Jam…impatiently I waited. I did get the invite and attended. The first three years were tough but a great learning experience. But I figured it out...I am still at it 18 years later and still living the dream…I get to photograph beautiful Ujena swimwear models on sandy beaches. Doesn’t get much better than this.”

Age is only a number for 49-year-old swimwear model Jodi LaBossiere

Jodii LaBossiere is originally from Winnipeg, Canada and now divides her time between South Carolina and California.

"I have two adorable Pomeranians (Ollie and Penny) that demand most of my attention but when they nap I enjoy an active lifestyle that includes hikes, walks on the beach a little golf at the club and enjoying some fine dining, great wine and good friends," says Jodi.

Jodi was first featured by Ujena in 1995 when she appeared on the cover of Swimwear Illustrated magazine.

She has been a Ujena model ever since. But she is much more than a model. Besides still modeling she also helps with makeup, styling and on the most recent shoot she even picked up the camera with great results.

She have been seen in 75 millioin homes on Shop NBC as brand ambassador for AminoGenesis Skincare. She has also written a book "In Your Face: the badass lifestyle guide for the empowered woman."

She is a woman of many talents and still after 24 years she looks beautiful in a bikini.

So how does she do it? "I lift weights 3-4 times a week, I do HIIT cardio 5-6 days a week and I absolutely watch what I eat and drink," Jodi says. "I do love to eat and I love my wine but I don't eat whatever I want whenever I want."

The co-founder of Lush Cosmetics North America Karen Delaney Wolverton has modeled swimwear for 34 years

Karen Delaney Wolverton and her husband Mark, of 25 years, co-founded Lush Cosmetics North America 23 years ago. Today they own 255 stores and they manufacture Lush products for all of Canada and the United States.

Karen says, "In addition to being very involve with Lush, I travel around the world to support charity work. I have been to Africa 62 times."

Karen first modeled Ujena swimwear in 1984 and appeared on the cover of Swimwear Illustrated (photo) the same year wearing the Classic Twist. Ujena founder and chief photographer, Bob Anderson took the image.

"Karen has been on location with us most years since 1984," says Bob Anderson who once again had her in front of his lens in October. "It is hard to believe that Karen (top photo) is 54-years-old because she looks as beautiful as ever in a bikini."

After that most recent photo shoot Karen posted this on Facebook last October. "This year marks 34 years that I have been with Ujena swimwear. Shooting with them in Cabo for the past couple of days has made me feel good about turning a year older...again. Thanks."

Karen has two children, her 22-year-old girl recently graduated with a degree in animation from Loyola Marymount University. Her 19-year-old son plays hockey and is about to enter a University in Canada.

What does Karen do to stay in such good bikini shape? "Hmmm, I stay in shape by walking a lot, hiking and eating well. I also have such a supportive beautiful family that encourage me," she says.

"I am happy and blessed that I am healthy and have been able to wear Ujena swimsuits since 1984."

“I always enjoy having Karen on our set. And what Karen and Mark have done with Lush and their charities is simply amazing,” says Bob.

Bikini Body Fitness - 10-Step program to Drops 2-5 pounds in a Week

Many of us would like to loose a few pounds so we will look our best when we slip on a bikini.  I’ve put together a simple check list of things to do every day for seven days, and I guarantee you’ll drop a few pounds your first week.   None of steps are that radical, it’s just putting them together. 

But first of all how many calories a day do we need to eat to lose weight?

This is the most frequently asked question by individuals wanting to lose weight. If the answer was simple, it wouldn’t be asked so often!

Many factors affect what happens to the calories we consume. One huge meal is more likely to be stored as fat than more frequent small meals. Meals should contain low fat protein, complex carbohydrates, unsaturated fat and fiber. Meals that are full of fat, sugar and no fresh fruits and vegetables are more likely to be stored as fat.

Try to keep the calories in your main meals around 500-800 to lose weight. Eat three main meals, and snacks, and don’t forget to count the calories you drink.

If you exercise, you will be able to eat slightly more calories. The best way to determine calories is to keep food journals and be aware of what you eat.  There are several apps that offer this function that are excellent and will take out the guess work.  

Here is my list of 10 things you should do daily:

1. Eat breakfast.

2. Eat three healthy meals that include low fat protein, fresh vegetables and whole grains.

3. Keep these meals between 350-750 calories; at least 2 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, less than 25 grams of sugar and 5 percent fat.

4. Keep total sodium at less than 2500 mg. per day.

5. Purchase healthy 100 calorie snacks and keep them handy.

6. Eat two servings of fresh fruit

7. Eat two servings of fresh vegetable.

8. Consume drinks with not more than 25 grams of sugar per serving. Cutting out all sodas is recommended. 

9. If you blow it one day, get back on track the next.

10. Exercise in some way each day.

17-year-old Rylie had never modelled bikinis before her trip to Cabo

Rylie is new to bikini modeling and in fact this was her first time in front of the camera. A previous Ujena cover model discovered her at a restaurant.

The 17-year-old beauty travelled to Cabo with the Ujena photo crew. Before the trip she wrote, "I am a bi-racial American girl from Orange County, California. I love to exercise, eat healthy foods, and enjoy being unique.

"I am in my second year of learning to speak French! I want to become more successful than my brother (photo) who is a Major League Baseball player in the Minnesota Twins minor league system!

"I would like to pursue a career in modeling, as I am a fun and energetic girl who would like to explore exciting new places," she wrote.

Rylie modelled more than forty bikinis on this four day trip to Cabo. Khloe Kardashian's critics accusing her of photoshopping some of her images

Khloé Kardashian, Keeping Up with the Kardashians star addressed multiple critics who accused the star of sharing heavily edited photos of herself on social media.

In a video clip shared on her Instagram Story, Kardashian posted a behind-the-scenes glimpse at herself modeling at the Becca shoot and the live images as they were captured to show she didn’t look much different in the final photos.

The star is no stranger to being on the receiving end of Photoshop allegations — and shutting them down.

Several days ago, the star also came under fire for a photo she posted of herself and Kris Jenner, which a critic left a sarcastic comment on.

“Would you keep IG if all photo editing apps were gone forever??? Lol,” the Instagram user asked. Kardashian replied, “Would you? Sometimes I wonder why people comment if it adds no value to ones life? Maybe I’m just different… but I don’t care to be negative or passive aggressive. Our world is toxic enough as it is. It’s sad people care to criticize something like an editing app.”

“Let it go babe. Say something nice or just let it go. Don’t add to the hatred in the world. How does this serve you love?” she added. She received the same kind of feedback in September after posting a sexy bikini photo on vacation in Bali.

“People find anything to comment on, especially negative people,” Kardashian said.

She continued, “A negative mind will never give you a positive life. Change that mentality and you will change your life."

Did you know? Cancun was a small fishing village until 1970 and is a perfect location to photograph bikinis

Cancún is located on the northeastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, facing the Caribbean Sea. It is essentially a service town for the L-shaped resort area of Isla Cancún, which is 13 miles long by 0.25 mile (400 meters) wide. The Cancún Island resort area is linked by a causeway to Cancún city.

The island, with its skyscraper hotels and sprawling resorts, and the coastal area occupied by Cancún city have abundant white sand beaches, palm groves, and coral reefs. The warm, tropical climate has a short rainy season.

Originally settled by Maya Indians, the area was recorded as Cancúne in 1843 by the American explorer John Lloyd Stephens and the British explorer Frederick Catherwood in their classic work, Incidents of Travel in Yucatan (1843).

Cancún remained a small fishing-and-gathering settlement until 1970, when, after a three-year study of conditions by the Mexican government in association with private interests, the area was selected as a suitable site for an international holiday center.

A building boom in the 1980s transformed Cancún Island into a major resort for tourists from the United States, Europe, and elsewhere.

The movie Bikini Weapon of Choice gives inside information why the bikini is so magical

Hundreds of bikini models from all over the world were interviewed and photographed for the Around Town Productions film Bikini Weapon of Choice released in 2010. 

Each had their own reason why the bikini was their weapon of choice. Director Bob Anderson said, "We discovered in making the film the power of the bikini. We traced the history of the bikini and along the way uncovered why this provocative piece of clothing has been raising eyebrows for nearly sixty years."

These bikini models Sarah Ponce (Top photo), Trisha Tompkins, Cassandra Murray (Bottom photo) and Jade Burgos-Evans are featured in the film along with over 100 models and photographers.  

"Pure entertainment from start to finish, finally a film that gives us inside information on why the bikini is so magical," says Catherine Cross.  

The full length (one hour 17 minutes if rated it would be PG13) movie was released in 2010 and over 274,000 people have viewed the film courtesy of Ujena Swimwear.

Isla Mujeres is only about a 20 minute boat ride off the coast of Cancun and is a real gem in the middle of the Caribbean Sea

Isla Mujeres is a Mexican island in the middle of the Caribbean Sea.  It is just eight miles off the coast of Cancún but the atmosphere is totally different, relaxed, fresh and picturesque. 

The island itself is small and in fact you can walk the length of the island in less than two hours. 

”We have photographed our bikinis there many times,” says Ujena chief photographer Bob Anderson.  “The beaches are beautiful, the color of the water is turquoise blue and the light is perfect a lot of the time.”

“The beaches on this small little island are amazing. There are also little hotels, plenty of restaurants and good shopping,” says bikini model Crystal Milana.  “I have modeled Ujena bikinis there several times and I can’t wait to go back.”

Boats leave regularly from the Gran Puerto Cancun ferry dock every half hour and within an hour you can be walking on one of the many beaches of Isla Mujeres.  The crossing takes 20 minutes and cost about $11 round trip.
